The operation aims to equip those who wish to spend time in the bush, or pursue a career in field guiding, with the relevant qualifications and skills.
The accommodation at the Mara Training Centre consists of six chalets – three twin chalets that each sleep two guests, and three bunk bed chalets that each sleep four. Large groups of up to 18 guests can stay at the centre. All accommodation overlooks a river.
Programmes include safari guiding, wildlife, research, conservation, community and land management. The courses provide insight into the co-habitation and conflict between the community, herdsmen, crops, cattle and wildlife.
Seven Masai from the Enonkishu and neighbouring conservancies recently completed a safari guide introductory course provided by EcoTraining at the Mara Training Centre. The aim is to equip them with opportunities for employment as trainee guides by local lodges within the concession.
